We are serious golfers ourselves and use our own golf nets both at work and at home. We believe that our flat golf driving nets are far superior to the flimsy "pop-up" golf nets commonly sold by sporting goods stores.
The best way to hang one of our nets for practice (as opposed to for property protection from golf balls) is to pull the top border rope taut horizontally and let the net hang loose with 12 inches of net or so laying on the ground. When you hit a driver, or any other club, into this loosly hanging net the net "kills" the ball upon impact and the ball drops straight down.
The ideal situation for putting the net up for use is if you have two existing objects to connect to such as trees, a building, a pole, etc.. If not, our recommendation is to use galvanized steel chain link fence post poles - available at most all big-box building supply stores.
If you want your poles and net to be easily removeable get a couple of 2 1/2 in. diameter pole pieces about 18"-24" long to use as ground sleeves. Then get 2 in. dia. poles for your vertical net supports and slide them into these sleeves once you've set them in the ground. The store's chain link fence hardware section will also have the appropriately sized pole caps and collars.
